When we replace a roof here, we tear off completely to the deck — Douglas County doesn't allow shingle-over-shingle overlays — inspect the sheathing carefully for moisture damage hidden under moss or old layers, and rebuild with synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in the valleys and around penetrations, fresh flashing, and Owens Corning architectural shingles. On the shaded, moss-prone slopes we add zinc or copper strips and a maintenance rhythm so moss can't get re-established.
