Roofing for a historic farm valley
Older farmhouses reward careful work, and the damp valley floor demands a roof that fights moisture. When we replace a roof in Lookingglass, we tear off completely to the deck — Douglas County doesn't allow shingle-over-shingle overlays — inspect the sheathing on those older homes for any rot hidden under layers or moss, and rebuild with synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in the valleys and around penetrations, fresh flashing, and Owens Corning architectural shingles. On the shaded, moss-prone slopes we'll add zinc or copper strips and set up a maintenance rhythm so moss never gets a real foothold again.
