Service Area · North Umpqua Corridor
Fire-smart roofing for Glide, Oregon.
Glide lives between two realities: the deep-green North Umpqua forest that shades roofs into moss farms, and the wildfire risk the 2020 Archie Creek Fire made impossible to ignore. We build roofs for both — Class A fire-rated assemblies that also stand up to the wet.
Local Knowledge
After Archie Creek, roofing in Glide changed.
In September 2020 the Archie Creek Fire burned through the North Umpqua corridor, and Glide-area families lost homes. Nobody along Highway 138 needs a lecture about wildfire — what's useful is knowing that your roof is your home's biggest ember-catcher, and it's the single most effective place to harden. Oregon's wildfire building code favors Class A roof assemblies: asphalt fiberglass composition, metal, or tile. Wood shakes are prohibited in Douglas County's Wildfire Hazard Overlay District.
The other half of Glide's story is water. Forest-edge properties sit in deep conifer shade where needle litter and 30-plus inches of rain keep shingles damp for months — some of the heaviest moss pressure in the county. A good Glide roof has to be fire-smart and moss-managed at the same time.
- Class A assemblies — composition, metal, or tile rated systems; see our wildfire-resistant roofing guide for what qualifies
- Ember-resistant details — venting, edge metal, and clean gutters matter as much as the shingle itself
- Insurance leverage — carriers increasingly discount for (or require) documented Class A roofs in the corridor
- Deep-shade moss — needle removal, treatment, and gutter care on a schedule; here's the routine that works

Mistletoe Construction is family-owned in Riddle, about 40 minutes from Glide — Douglas County based, not dispatched from Eugene. We're licensed as Oregon CCB #255729 and an Owens Corning contractor, and we treat wildfire hardening as standard practice on the North Umpqua, not an upsell.
Questions
Glide roofing FAQs
What is a Class A fire-rated roof, and does my Glide home need one?
Class A is the highest fire resistance rating — modern asphalt fiberglass composition, metal, and tile all qualify as rated assemblies. After the Archie Creek Fire, Class A plus ember-resistant details is the smart standard here, and wood shakes are prohibited in the county's Wildfire Hazard Overlay District. Full guide here.
Can a new roof really improve my wildfire insurance situation?
Often, yes. Insurers along the North Umpqua corridor look hard at roof material, ember entry points, and roof debris. A documented Class A assembly with ember-resistant venting strengthens your position — some carriers discount for it, others won't renew without it. We provide the documentation your agent asks for.
Why does my Glide roof grow so much moss?
Deep conifer shade plus needle litter holds moisture against shingles for months — ideal moss conditions. Regular debris removal, treatment, and clear gutters slow it dramatically. That's the routine our Home Care Membership handles, and it doubles as fire-season fuel removal.
