Cedar or composite — which is better here?
Both work well in Douglas County — they just trade costs differently. Cedar is naturally rot-resistant, costs less up front, and looks like Oregon, but needs cleaning and re-sealing to survive 130+ rain days a year. Composite costs more up front but shrugs off wet winters and dry summers with an occasional wash. We price your deck both ways.
When's the best time of year to build?
Late spring through early fall gives the driest build conditions, but the smart move is planning earlier: winter and early spring are the best times to get on the schedule so your deck is ready for the first 86-degree July afternoon. We build year-round when weather windows allow.
Do I need a permit for a deck?
It depends on size and height. Small, low, freestanding decks often don't need one; larger decks, attached decks, or anything meaningfully off the ground generally do. We confirm the requirement for your specific project and handle the permit and inspections as part of the job.
How do I maintain a deck in this climate?
Sweep off leaves and fir needles before they trap moisture, wash the surface each spring, keep the gaps between boards clear, and re-seal cedar every couple of years.
